To speed up your network connection, you can turn on Folder redirection on your OSX server. This means that all your caching is written on the local machine in stead of on the network share. We had also a problem with date reconition (Data Detectors) in the Mail.app. The application wouldn’t reconize the date and simply transfer it to iCal. This problem is gone when you write the cache to the local machine.
